Blencathra - Year 5

Dear Parents and Year 5 Pupils,

Wow! I can’t believe we are at the October half term break already. What a whirlwind first half term.

Just a quick note to say thank you. Thank you for your support and hard work so far. We have been working extra hard in all areas to ensure expectations are known from the offset and I am happy to say everyone has risen to the challenge.

In maths we have been focussing on perfecting our problem solving and reasoning skills and I am also happy to say Blencathra class are amazing at this. In English we have read The Viewer and have written some excellent Wicked Writing pieces. We have even impressed Mrs Mitchell and Miss Astell with our everyday use of technical language.

Over the half term break if you feel that your child would benefit from extra spelling practice, I have sent home their Talk Homework book which has the curriculum spellings in the back. Also, if your child would like to practice their times table facts there are some awesome games on the top marks website- Hit the Button and Daily 10. The website links are:

Thank you again. I hope your all have a relaxing half term break.

Miss Ewart and Mrs Strong.

P.S Year 5- I will reward 25 points for each ‘and’ you can successfully change to a higher level conjunction. Good Luck!

Blencathra class have been working hard writing newspaper articles about the disappearance of Tristan (the main character from our text, The Viewer). We used Editing Stations to check punctuation, spellings and improve our writing.

Blencathra class had so much fun creating Tribal Headdresses with Mrs Mitchell yesterday afternoon! They were eager to show their designs off to Miss Ewart so we held a Cumwhinton Catwalk! Just look at their efforts... AMAZING!

Roald Dahl Day!

Blencathra class made some lovely memories during Roald Dahl day. From Mike TV to the Grand High Witch we all dressed as our favourite characters and enjoyed making BFJ dream jars and drawing Willy Wonka with the help of Quentin Blake himself!
