Cliff McNish Visit
Cumwhinton School were very lucky to welcome, author of the Doomspell trilogy, Cliff McNish.
Some of our children bought some of his books and had them signed by the author himself!
Year Two Class Assembly
On Wednesday 15th November we held our first Year Two class assembly. The children were FANTASTIC!
Thank you to all parents who attended and here are some photos and a video of our wonderful performance.
To link with our "Made in Cumbria" topic, the children searched the school garden to think of ideas to inspire their writing. They looked for what they may see, hear, smell, touch and taste.
Key Stage 1 Harvest Festival
Year 2 were fantastic this year for our Harvest Festival. They performed a brilliant version of the Enormous Turnip!
Measuring Right Angles
We have been looking at right angles and then using our "Right Angle Finders" to investigate where we may find them in the classroom.
The Enormous Turnip!
In year 2 we have been learning the story 'The enormous turnip' linking to our Harvest festival and focusing on the importance of sharing.
We have created some fantastic acrostic poems about the enormous turnip as well as creating some turnip art and our own 'schoolmade' vegetable and turnip soup!
In year 2 we love our 'Exciting Writing' on a Thursday morning. We work in groups to discuss and share ideas linking to our talk homework, this helps us to plan our writing. We then start our 'Exciting Writing' with peaceful music and a candle to help get our creative juices flowing!
YEAR 2 PE
In the Autumn Term in our Thursday outdoor PE lessons the children will be developing their throwing, catching, hitting and dribbling skills through a range of different games activities. They will begin with learning to control a ball using a Unihoc Stick and learn rules to play simple games.
In the hall (on Fridays) the children have begun our first Year 2 Gymnastics Unit - Points of Contact where they will be learning to balance on a number of points and develop sequences.
