RECEPTION

Throughout Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Great emphasis is placed on the Characteristics of Effective Learning.

Playing and exploring – engagement.  This includes finding out and exploring, playing with what they know and being willing to ‘have a go’.

Active learning – motivation.  This includes being involved and concentrating, perseverance and enjoying achieving what they set out to do.

Creating and thinking critically – thinking.  This includes having their own ideas, making links and choosing ways to do things.

 

The curriculum is organised so that children learn through a combination of child and adult-led activities.In our Reception class (Catbells), our learning environment incorporates playful learning and we plan activities appropriate to the child’s needs through a topic- based curriculum.

We also teach phonics, reading, writing, number, and shape and space alongside the topics. We follow Read Write inc for our Phonics teaching and we follow the White Rose Maths scheme for our Maths teaching.  Throughout the year we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework to ensure that the children's needs are met.

Read Write Inc

We place high priority on learning to read at an early age. 

Our children start to appreciate the rich world reading brings right from the start at Cumwhinton. We follow Read Write Inc we follow this programme consistently from Early Years through to the end of Key Stage 1.
